Pupil Premium

HomeAbout UsStatutory InformationPupil Premium

Overview

The Pupil Premium is government funding designed to address the educational disadvantages faced by children who are, or have been, eligible for free school meals (E6), looked-after children, and service children. This extra funding is specifically targeted at the learners who need it most.

The £340 Premium for learners from Reception to Year 11 was introduced by the Department for Education (DfE) as part of the commitment to delivering the Armed Forces Covenant. This funding allows schools to offer additional support to children with parents in the Armed Forces.

Policies & Documents

Effective teaching can and does reduce gaps in attainment. To improve outcomes for learners vulnerable to underachievement, the academy has developed a programme of personalised teaching provisions for those allocated Pupil Premium.

Paper copies are available on request, please contact us directly. For all policies and documents please refer to the Policies & Documents area of the website.

Service Personnel

Please inform the Academy if you are a Service family so that this can be noted on the school census in October, enabling the school to claim the Service Pupil Premium (SPP).

Eligibility

  • Children of currently serving Service personnel.
  • Children of members of the Full-Time Reserve Service Full Commitment.
  • Children with a parent who has died in Service and who receive a pension through the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme/War Pensions Scheme.
  • Children recorded as Service children on a school census in England at any time within the last six years. This includes children whose parents may have left the Armed Forces, but for whom the school continues to receive SPP under the DfE’s Ever 6 Service child measure.

The SPP is distinct from the Pupil Premium. Schools determine how the funds are allocated for Service children, primarily focusing on pastoral support. Unlike the Pupil Premium, the SPP is not intended for academic attainment. However, mobile Service children may require targeted assistance in a new school to catch up with their class or address gaps in understanding due to missing key learning areas.
